The Ecological water treatment systems we design are efficient living technological solutions for environmental repair, waste water treatment, and water recycling. These systems harness the powerful treatment capacity found in nature and are designed to be robust and self regulating, with minimal maintenance & energy requirements. These systems utilize complex reactions in the microbiological and plant relationships to break down and digest organic wastes, recycle nutrients and remove contaminants within an engineered setting. Constructed wetlands and reedbeds

Constructed wetlands and reedbeds are primarily passive systems requiring no aeration and little to no energy inputs. Water can be contained out of view and contact in a sub-surface flow system. Recycling from the effluent end of the wetland to a gravel mound at the influent provides excellent nitrification of ammonia.   The technology is robust, straightforward and cost effective, providing excellent treatment and water recycling capabilities. Constructed wetlands are ideal for rural and semi rural locations with adequate land availability and requirements for minimal maintenance and energy usage.

Restorers

Restorers are floating planted ecologies ideal for water restoration & treatment in lagoons, lakes, canals and rivers.   Floating Planted Ecologies utilize biofilms attached to the surfaces of media and plant roots in combination with suspended growth processes. Retention times allow on-going digestion of sludge.   Fine-bubble aeration diffusers establish aerobic treatment conditions. We design these systems with a range of applicability from high strength industrial wastes to lightly polluted public waterways.

Tank based systems & Fed batch reactors

Tank Based Systems & Fed batch Reactors rely on suspended growth treatment, while planted ecologies and geotextile curtains provide additional attached growth treatment surfaces in anoxic, aerobic & anaerobic cycles.   Hydraulic retention times are short. Phosphorus treatment is achieved by 'luxury uptake' in the anaerobic cycle.   Nitrification of ammonia takes place in the aerobic reactor, while dentrification is handled in the anoxic cycle.   Energy requirements are kept low by the use of multiple blowers controlled by oxygen probe activation of variable frequency drives. These systems are ideal for urban applications, within buildings, or where space is limited.

Water Recycling

Recycling treated wastewater for irrigation of trees and flowers is an efficient and practical use of water. We encourage water recycling whenever possible and the effluent from our systems can be used for drip irrigation, or recycled to toilets.

Sand Filters

Recirculating Sand Filters are designed by EVI to polish wastewater naturally.   In particular ammonia, total nitrogen and total suspended solids can be held at treated to low levels.
